The Sun Herald: Coast appears unlikely to lose any House seats

JACKSON (Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011) – It's been news for a while, now. As a matter of fact, state Rep. Diane Peranich of Pass Christian even mentioned it in an interview with WLOX-TV in Biloxi that was broadcast on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011.

Now, The Sun Herald finally picked up on it. In a story filed for the Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, edition of The Sun Herald, the newspaper reported thast the Coast will keep all of its districts in a proposed House redistricting plan. In other words, the Coast will not lose any seats.

REDISTRICTING PUBLIC HEARINGS

The Standing Legislative Committee on Legislative Reapportionment and Redistricting hosted 12 public hearings statewide in August and September 2010. People shared their thoughts and observations about redistricting. Here are the dates of the public hearings:

Monday, Aug. 16, 6 p.m.: Clarksdale Coahoma Community College, the Pinnacle Building
Tuesday, Aug. 17, 6 p.m.: Itta Bena, Mississippi Valley State University, Science and Technology Building Auditorium
Thursday, Aug. 19, 6 p.m.: Oxford, University of Mississippi, Fulton Chapel
Friday, Aug. 20, 6 p.m.: Fulton, Itawamba Community College, W.L. Benjamin Fine Arts Building
Saturday, Aug. 21, 10:30 a.m.: Starkville, Mississippi State University Colvard Union Ballroom
Saturday, Aug. 21, 3 p.m.: Columbus, Mississippi University for Women, Parkinson Auditorium
Monday, Aug. 23, 6 p.m.: Meridian, Meridian Community College, Emma McCain Fine Arts Building
Wednesday Aug. 25, 6 p.m.: Hattiesburg, University of Southern Mississippi, Thad Cochran Center, Ballroom 1
Thursday, Aug. 26, 6 p.m.: Gulfport, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Jefferson Davis Campus, Fine Arts Auditorium
Monday, Sept. 13, 6 p.m.: Summit, Southwest Mississippi Community College, Hurst Fine Arts Building
Tuesday, Sept. 14, 6 p.m.: Natchez, Alcorn State University, Natchez Campus, Graduate Business Programs, Lecture Hall
Wednesday, Sept. 15, 6 p.m.: Jackson, Hinds County Courthouse, Courtroom 1

After the committee received final figures from ther U.S. Census Bureau, it hosted a series of four additional hearings statewide in February 2011. Here are the dates of those public hearings:
